Everyone who hears the news is so happy for you! They tell you to enjoy every minute, because this is one of the best times of your life. But, for some reason, you don’t feel quite that way. Since your family and friends are all so joyful, you’re afraid to say that you don’t always feel that good. Is there something wrong with you? No! This is a wonderful time of life, but it is also a very stressful time. Stress is defined as any situation that requires coping and may exceed your resources. Stress is not only confined to negative events. Remember the stress of getting ready for your prom? Or, for those of you who went away to college for the first time, though it was an exciting event, wasn’t it also a stressful period? There is so much to do as you get ready for your wedding - choosing the hall and the food, selecting the flowers and the music, preparing the invitations, shopping for a dress. The list seems endless. Each of these decisions demands your time and your full attention. This is an important day and you want it to be perfect, so you have to make careful choices. And your time is only one factor. There are also money issues to consider. Added to all of this, the decisions are not just your own - they must include anywhere from one to five other people! No wonder you’re stressed out! So, take a deep breath and relax in the knowledge that you’re not crazy. Being stressed that you’re stressed only brings on more of it.
